Chillanthropist Guest Mix Debut: Chillhop and Lofi Chill Mix
It’s an honor to be a guest contributor to Afternoon Skies. My musical journey began in the vibrant era of the 1990s, a time when pop and hip hop were not just genres but cultural touchstones. Remember the heydays of MTV’s Total Request Live or the pulsating energy of the 1990s and 2000s Video Music Awards? Those were defining experiences of my youth.
Over the years, my tastes have evolved, steering me towards more complex yet soothing rhythms. I appreciate music that harmonizes with the various backdrops of life – whether I’m immersed in work, enjoying a meal, or taking a scenic drive. For me, music shouldn’t be a disruption but an enhancing layer to our daily experiences. That’s why you won’t find me gravitating towards aggressive beats or dissonant sounds. Instead, I lean towards what’s often classified as “chill music.”
Now, don’t misconstrue my preference for chill music as a desire for dull, sleep-inducing melodies. Quite the contrary. The perfect chill music, in my opinion, offers an engaging hook and a rhythmic beat that is pleasant and adaptable to any environment. The 90s kid within me still craves that kinetic energy, that irresistible urge to bob my head along with the beat, even if it’s subtly playing in the background.
Though that’s what I’m bringing today, this is only the beginning. I like to surprise. Even though I’m the Chillanthropist, I don’t stick to one formula. You might think you’ve got my vibe figured out from this introduction, but trust me, there’s always an element of unpredictability up my sleeve. As I venture into the realm of Afternoon Skies, I plan to introduce different styles, adding a bit of delightful chaos to the well-tuned order that Eric brings. Brace yourselves – it’s going to be an entertaining ride.
